The Vogue Festival

This weekend, together with the fash pack, I descended upon the Royal College of Art for the Vogue Festival.

It was my first time, so very exciting. The talk I was most looking forward to was the very aptly named So You Want To Be In Fashion? Yes, yes I do thank you very much. The panel – Vogue editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman, Harrods fashion director Helen David, designer Simone Rocha and fashion consultant Yasmin Sewell – shared some of their tips and experiences and generally just sat there being inspiring. Here’s a breakdown of what the touched on:Scan 1

Yasmin talked quite a lot about the importance of finding what it is that you want ‘your thing’ to be – and, well, I have to be honest: I walked away feeling like I would quite enjoy being an editor, a fashion director, a designer or a fashion consultant.

Can you spot me here looking rapt?

One very important suggestion I have for next year (Vogue, if you’re listening) is better seating. Those benches are too high and too uncomfortable.

Next on the agenda was the awkwardest part of the day: my very own cover shoot! The Chanel makeover and accessory choosing was fun (although the milk carton bag managed to get itself cut out of the picture completely, and the iridescent cuff is only barely there at the bottom), but all the actual shoot managed to achieve was to remind me once again of how much I hate having my picture taken. Hence my perplexed, what’s-that-smell expression. Sensational indeed.

Also on offer were 10-minute Feel Good Facials and Vogue Vitamin Checks courtesy of the Organic Pharmacy, customisable make-up lessons by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and hairstyling by Kérastase, as well as yummy treats from the Harrods Recharge Cafe (featuring the cutest little green men).

Speaking of yumminess, Ella Woodward of Deliciously Ella fame was there signing copies of her book.

Of course I couldn’t resist a bespoke Vogue monogram mani, courtesy of Topshop – so I braved the hideously long queue.
